You might need to make some modifications to your home and car in order to be able to live independent of assistance from your friends and family. If you thought looking for an apartment was tough before... try looking for one that will accomodate your wheelchair! Here are some resources:

Independent Living Resources: Multi-service agency for persons with disabilities in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. 503-232-7411

Institute on Independent Living: We serve self-help organizations of disabled people who work for equal opportunities, self-determination and self-respect.

Housing Authority of Portland Call 503-288-5750 and ask for a priority letter listing. This will lead you to a list of agencies that can help you find accessible housing. My understanding is that this is geared mostly toward low-income housing, but there may be some exceptions to this.
